The app
Howlog keeps the following in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Howlog\: settings (language, theme, recording shortcuts), the Pro license (key, the certificate the server signed for this computer, the furthest clock seen) and a log (technical status lines only; no screenshot content, file name or path). Screenshots taken during a recording are kept only for that session, temporarily, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Howlog\oturumlar\; they are deleted when you start a new recording or close the program, and anything left behind by an unexpected shutdown is deleted at the next start. The HTML, PDF, Word and GIF files you export carry their own copies of the images and are not deleted; if there are steps you have not exported, the program asks before closing. In the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gelkansoft\Howlog a copy of the furthest clock is kept (to prevent extending the license period by turning the clock back); no personal information. The screens you record may contain other people's personal data; you are responsible for that data, and it stays only on your computer.
The program's only network traffic is: Pro activation and renewal every 30 days. Only the key, product name and an irreversible hash of the computer are sent to the license server; the Windows machine GUID, computer name and user name are not sent. The recording engine, screenshot capture and UI Automation queries never access the internet. There is no automatic update check. There is no usage tracking, advertising or crash-report sending.
Microsoft Store edition: Howlog installed from the Store keeps the same files; Windows places them in the app's own area and removes them when the app is uninstalled.
This site
This site has no ads, no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics. Everything, fonts and images included, is served from our own server. The one exception: product pages load Paddle's script to open the checkout.
Pro license
Purchases are made on the site through Paddle; your card details never reach Gelkansoft and the program takes no payments. When you activate Pro, only the key, product name and an irreversible hash of the computer are sent to the license server. The free edition never connects to the internet. You can get a refund within 14 days, no questions asked.
