The app

Proofshot stores case folders and the captures in them (where you choose), settings and the log file in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Proofshot. Captured addresses and file paths are not written to the log. Session cookies and authorisation headers are kept out of the page archive (WARC, Pro): when you hand over a package captured while signed in to a site, your session does not go with it.

The program's network traffic is only this: the page you ask to capture (the browser opens it); a timestamp when you choose one (Pro) sends only a hash of the package to the timestamp authority (DigiCert, GlobalSign), never the page, address or file; license operations (Pro) send only the key, the product code and an irreversible fingerprint of the computer to the license server.

The page is opened with Microsoft Edge (or Google Chrome if Edge is missing) on your computer, in a separate browser profile. The browser's own services also use the network; among them is the security service that checks visited addresses (SmartScreen in Edge), which may send those addresses to the browser's maker. The program cannot turn all of these off; the setting that would do so also affects your own browser.

This site has no ads, no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics.

Pro license

Purchases are made on the website through Paddle; your card details never reach Gelkansoft and the program takes no payment. We receive your e-mail address and order details only to deliver your license, provide support and handle refunds, and the amount paid and your billing country for accounting and sales reports. When Pro activates, only your license key and a one-way fingerprint of your computer (a hash that cannot be turned back into your computer's identity) are sent to our server; this is how the 3-computer limit works. The free version sends no data.
